Subject: Legislative Strategy Going Forward
Mark,
We would like to invite you and other leaders of "non-compliant" school
districts from the coalition you led during the last legislative session to
a meeting regarding future initiatives. We are proposing a noon lunch on
Tuesday, November 10 here at Preti Flaherty, 45 Memorial Circle in Augusta.
There has been much interest in planning a coordinated legislative strategy
for "non-compliant" communities, regardless of the outcome of the Question 3
Referendum on November 3rd.
If the referendum fails, the coalition members will need active
representation at the State House to make further changes to the existing
law to make reorganization more viable for your communities. If the
referendum passes, the education landscape of the state will be considerably
shaken and major changes will likely be made early in the next legislative
session - if that is the case your districts will need to make their
collective voice heard in the new process.
Please forward this invitation along to your colleagues in non-compliant
districts across the state. Meeting a week after the referendum will give
us all a week to consider the outcome before coming together to discuss a
possible second joint initiative.
Best,
Dustin
