Good evening everyone,
Strange as it may seem, there appears to be some confusion about which way to vote to repeal the school consolidation law. The answer is to VOTE YES on QUESTION 3 TO REPEAL THE SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION LAW. I can't make it any plainer than that unless I go to the voting booths with people, and that is frowned on!!!
Even at this late date, I want to repeat one statistic, which I wish I had used frequently. Our friend, Keith Cook, from Waterville published an article on October 25 in several publications around the state. He stated that from 1960 to 2003 there were 45 major studies of 792 school consolidation efforts nationwide. There were reported savings in only 4 of 792. That is an incredible statistic.
Representative Ed Finch of Fairfield has been a stalwart supporter of consolidation from the day it was announced. He is a retired HS teacher and has a seat on the legislative education committee. At the School Boards convention on October 23, he stated that he voted YES to repeal the law because he believed that it was so flawed that it could not be fixed. I thanked him for his intellectual honesty.
Well, I suspect that we have done just about all that we can do until people vote on Tuesday. However, please remind people to vote YES on 3 to REPEAL THE SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION LAW.
Thank you to everyone for all your help. It has been a great effort by the greatest people on the face of this earth- MAINE RESIDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's to victory for Maine's students and taxpayers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Skip
